I created this piece on the concept of my personal memory - both in its unreliability and what I retain. Each figure is based on a person I met across four different walking routes, with one key part of them being detailed to show what I remember most from my encounter with them. The various effects of ripples and glitches are meant to symbolize the gaps and distortion of memory I have of each person outside of their specific detail. The bold colored lines laid atop each face represents the walking route I took on that day and where I met them. The faces are then juxtaposed atop a map of the city. The key details of the figures are linked to the exact location on this background map based on where I met them. The positioning of the routes in turn direct and give hints towards each key detail that I remembered from each person. This concept of my memory map is based on the idea that my experiences and recollection of a place are not focused on the space I am in, but rather on the people that I meet. My memory and resulting experience is more often shaped by who I meet and/or interact with rather than my structural surroundings, and is therefore what I remember later on. This, combined with an often spotty and unreliable memory, creates a map of people that represent places, but in the imperfect way that the memory stays with me as.
